Legend
| Cold, silent waters reflect a stone grey sky. Pale blue light paints shadows in a world bereft of life. Bitter, hollow and alone I yearn for that which had been taken from me. Had I not prayed for this? As the massive bell was struck, priests had chanted and my soul was bled from my body. Slowly, the universe had become a joyless thing. No pain, no pleasure, only knowledge. In the silence that followed I felt it. A searching, probing, a hungry thing. Had it had breath, I would have felt it on my cheek and had it had eyes, they would have bored deep into mine. But this predator was beyond the flesh. A thing formed of thought and hate, a creature blind to my presence, but wise to my existence. Terror froze my breath and pulled wide my eyes that stared now into endless Winter. I was still, unmindful of the hoarfrost covering my face. When the hunter finally retreated I felt I would never move again. Then, once more the bell sounded. It was done. Time had lost my track. Now I wander the world trapped between death and life. All I touch turns to ice, only death flows from my existence and the world is forever grey. |
